FOOD! Tips for keeping your Pet at a healthy weight.

Food! One of many people, and animals, favorite things. Recently I have seen a lot of people commenting and asking about the proper weight of their pet and how they should look and feel. Here are a few images to better show you how to judge your pet, as well as some tips on how to keep them in the ideal shape!

  1. Proper Portions: Just like humans, dogs and cats can overeat. Every container of pet food comes with a label on the back to tell you what the recommended amount is to feed for your pet. Depending on activity level, you may need to adjust, however these are usually a good chart to go by. Allowing your pet to overeat can easily push them into the obese category.

  2. Treats: Remembering to keep treats to a minimum will help to keep your pet from becoming overweight. If you have a large training session, use smaller treat portions and be sure to reduce the amount of food given that day to ensure no overeating has occurred.

  3. Adventure Time: Doing fun activities with your pet such as playing catch or playing with the laser toy, will help to up the amount of activity your pet participates in. Making exercise fun is the best way to keep them physically and mentally engaged.

  4. Vets know best: If you are concerned about your pets weight, you should consult a veterinarian. There could be an underlying condition that is causing your pets weight to gain or drop. When changing any diet it is best to consult your vet or nutritionist.

As always I hope these tips have helped you and your furry friend. Please refer to the images below for a detailed description and image of what your pets ideal weight is.
